IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
Fast Facts can be used as a guide to a dog's temperament, however every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please approach any unfamiliar dog with caution, particularly when you have children with you. Always ask an adoption counselor for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events or handlers for guidance with dogs in any situation, anywhere. Remember, safety first!

Bailey
Bailey was dumped at a shelter when the
family who purchased her found that she
needed hip surgery. Turned down by another
German Shepherd Rescue, SCGSR was Bailey's
last chance.
Our volunteers stepped in to save this girl. Please help Bailey
pay for her surgery by making a donation today.
UPDATE 3.12.10: BAILEY THANKS ALL HER FRIENDS! Bailey is recovering nicely from her surgery, thanks to all of her supporters! Here she is with her foster sister Emma, who had the same surgery in 2006 on one hip because of a broken leg! Emma and her other foster siblings are taking great care of Bailey and Bailey is getting stronger every day. Best of all, because of you, SCGSR was able to save Bailey's life!
UPDATE 2.13.10: Baily goes home to foster care on Valentines Day!!
Little Bailey is starting to use her back legs and will go to a foster home for aftercare on Valentines Day! She has been in the hospital since Monday. After a slight setback (she removed ALL of her own stitches), she is starting to put weight on her legs. She will need to be walked with a sling for at least several more days, but she's looking GREAT! Thank you everyone, we are making very good progress toward our goal! Her hospitalization has added quite a bit to her bill, but the important thing is that Bailey will live a happy and painfree life. SCGSR is able to help Bailey because of you!
2.9.10: BAILEY NEEDS YOUR HELP! We received a call from a San Diego shelter about a 9 month old girl who shelter workers described as "buckets of love." She was purchased from a breeder as a 12 week old baby. At 8 months she was diagnosed with hip dysplasia. Instead of helping her, her family brought her to the shelter to be euthanized.
After being turned down by other rescues this little girl had no hope for survival. We were her last chance and couldn't let her die without at least having our vet who specializes in orthopedic surgery examine her. Turns out her condition is very treatable with surgery to both her hips, called a bilateral femoral head ostectomy. She's a strong girl, her recovery should be swift and she'll be in great shape and pain free for the rest of her life.
Bailey undergoes surgery this week and will recuperate in a foster home. The total estimate for her surgery and aftercare is $2,100. Help give Bailey the pain free and happy life she deserves! Please donate through the paypal widget on the left and your name will be included as a donor! Choose your amount and click on "donate" to give this little "buckets of love" the chance she deserves to get well and find a forever home that will adore her!
If you would like to meet one of our dogs, please read the following information. The first step is for you to fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants, and be patient. We are all volunteers and we will try to respond within 72 hours.
Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.
The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check. SoCal Rescue typically does not adopt puppies outside of San Diego County, so that we can provide continued support to adopters as puppies grow up. Adult adoptions out of area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
