IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
For the safety of our dogs and the public, SCGSR provides volunteer orientations and training in dog handling. Volunteers who handle dogs at events are required to go through the orientation and training. For convenience we have recorded these sessions and you can watch them here. Every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please use caution with any unfamiliar dog, particularly around young children. Mishaps can have severe consequences for SCGSR, dogs and handlers. Always ask a senior volunteer for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events, dog walking, or with dogs in any situation, anywhere, where you have concerns. Remember, safety first!

Callie
SCGSR recieved a plea from the San Diego shelter. Callie had entered the shelter as a stray on 01.05.11 and her family never came for her. After 20 days in the shelter, poor Callie developed kennel cough and she she was becoming anxious looking at the same four walls and wondering when her family would come for her. She had to go to rescue or be euthanized. Even though funds are low, SCGSR stepped up to save this beauty.

Here is what Callie's transporter to our vet had to say about her:

Callie walked calmly on the leash, rode really well in the car (in fact, she laid down and took a nap), and when we got to VCA I sat down with her and she rolled on her back for a belly scratch. She is just the sweetest girl and it will be easy to find her a great home!

Callie is spayed, microchipped and vaccinated. She is now a healthy girl and doing great in a foster home with other dogs. Callie is a real head turner who will make a wonderful pet!

  • If you would like to meet one of our dogs, please read the following information. The first step is for you to fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants, and be patient. We are all volunteers and we will try to respond within 72 hours.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 up. Rescuing dogs without public subsidies is expensive. If you don't want to pay our adoption donations, please consider adopting directly from a publicly sponsored shelter. SCGSR dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check. SoCal Rescue typically does not adopt puppies outside of San Diego County, so that we can provide continued support to adopters as puppies grow up. Adult adoptions out of area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
