Durango
We are so sorry to say that after having the best time of his life, enjoying his food, his toys and living with foster mom Marilyn, Durango has died suddenly at home before he was two years of age. Godspeed to you Durango, you were very well loved by your foster mom and by everyone who met you. You were a handsome, kind and loving boy and we are glad to have given you some care and comfort for the short time you had with us.

Special home needed for this special boy!
Durango was turned into the
shelter by his family because he was sick and "the pills weren't working." They weren't working because he was never properly diagnosed. It turns out that Durango has a condition where he is unable to digest and absorb nutrients from his food without a little help, so he was slowly starving to death despite being adequately fed. This condition isn't curable but it is manageable, he will always need to have special enzymes added to his meals. His foster mom has found a source to obtain the enzymes at a very reasonable price, and has worked out the combination of food and enzyme that works best for this sweet guy. His energy level is back to normal, and he's putting on weight, and he is just gorgeous.
Durango is very entertaining. He's affectionate, smart and sometimes just plain goofy. When he's really happy he prances like a pony. He gets along well with the dogs in his foster home, but strange dogs scare him so he won't be a good off leash park type of dog. As a result of his near starvation he has an obsession with looking for things to eat, so he does better if crated at night and when no one is home to make sure he doesn't get into things he shouldn't. He loves his crate, and runs right into it when told "Go to your room."
A few extra minutes a day is all that will be needed to enrich your life with the companionship of this special canine, and to make Durango a very happy boy. Can you spare the time?
If you would like to meet Durango, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.
Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.
The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
