Adoption policy. Our normal minimum suggested adoption donations are:
Puppies up to 12 months: $350.00
Adolescent/Adult: $300.00
SCGSR requires an application, an interview, and a home check prior to placing a dog in an adoptive home. Prior to release of the dog to an adoptive family, an adoption contract will be executed and the adoption donation will be made at that time.
SCGSR will place the dog in the most appropriate home for the dog.
The dog will be current on vaccinations, and will be spayed or neutered. You will be provided with copies of all records in the possession of SCGSR. In the event that a dog is ill or cannot be neutered prior to placement, it will be necessary to make the minimum donation and have the dog neutered or spayed within 15 days at a vet which has been pre-approved by SCGSR and at SCGSR's expense. SCGSR will not adopted outside of Southern California except in extraordinary circumstances. SCGSR volunteers will require an application and a home check before placing a rescue in an adoptive home.
Adoption Donation Refunds
Adoption donation refunds will be determined solely by SCGSR on a case-by-case basis.
Some of the highlights of our adoption contract include the following:
- Adopter will licence the dog and the dog will wear a collar at all times with its license and an ID tag with the owners address and telephone numbers.
- The dog will not be allowed to run loose and fencing will be kept secure. The dog will not be allowed to ride in the back of an open truck or vehicle.
- The dog will not be sold, given away or taken to a shelter, but will be returned to SCGSR under the terms of the Adoption Contract.
The average cost of caring for our dogs, including shelter fees,
spaying/neutering, veterinary care, transport, boarding and feeding far exceeds
our adoption donations. In the case of a dog needing extraordinary care, costs can reach thousands of dollars. We greatly appreciate any additional contribution you may be able to make at the time of adoption. Join our rescue "family" and help us to continue our efforts to save dogs!
