About SCGSR
SCGSR is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation (EIN 20-5500458). Your contributions to help SCGSR save dogs are tax deductible. SCGSR receives no public subsidies and is funded solely through donations made by supporters like you. Every dollar donated goes directly to help rescue dogs. You'll find just a handful of dogs here. We hope that by staying small, we can best help our rescues be healthy and happy and adopted into great forever homes. Visit our available dogs today and find your new best friend. You can help SCGSR continue its mission to rescue, rehabilitate and place dogs in loving homes by making a tax deductible donation today.

Our Volunteers
Principals of SCGSR have many years of experience with German Shepherds and with rescue, and count among their accomplishments a high rate of successful placement of dogs in adoptive homes.
Rehabilitating Dogs
SCGSR prides itself in the rehabilitation of ill and unadoptable dogs, ultimately resulting in adoption into loving homes.
Please read the following before sending us an email:
  • If you're interested in one of our dogs, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.

If you live out of the Southern California area and would like to adopt, please provide us with emailed photographs of your house, yard and fence after submitting your application. Along with photographs, we'll need two references, one being from a veterinarian. Keep in mind that our policy is to always do home checks, and if you're out of our area, we'll need to be comfortable that we're sending our dogs to a good home.

  • If you would like to volunteer to help SCGSR, please fill out our adoption application and let us know a little about yourself and how you'd like to help. You may also call 619-846-1436.

  • IF YOU ARE GIVING UP YOUR DOG. Rescues are formed to help give animals second chances at a good life. Unfortunately many people believe rescue organizations exist to take in dogs at a moment's notice because animal control has given a citation regarding the dog, or because the owner decided to move to location that does not allow dogs.

Our mission is to help dogs truly in need by finding them forever homes. We do understand that sometimes even the most responsible dog owner falls on hard times; we are willing to help in these situations. We simply ask for owners to take responsibility of their pet by ensuring the dog is spayed or neutered, current on his/her vaccinations, and that they plan accordingly to allow enough time to find a good home for the dog they need to relinquish.

If you have a dog or dogs you are seeking to rehome, please email us with photos of your dog and a detailed description. Please try to contact us well ahead of the time you'll need to reliquish your dog. You may also call 619-846-1436.
