07.20.09: Layla (formerly "Heidi") happy with Helen and Dan in her new forever home!
Hi Everyone,
Just a quick note to let you know that we decided to change her name to “Layla” (like the Eric Clapton song). We haven’t had time to download any new pictures off our camera (we will!) but wanted to give you a quick update. She is just the best dog, honestly we feel like we won the “dog lottery”. She is so well behaved - doesn’t even beg when we are all eating at the dinner table - we just tell her to lie down and she does… She and the cats are still getting to know each other through the baby gate at the top of the stairs which is perfectly fine with the cats (I don’t think they are in any hurry). She has a little white stuffed furry toy that she carries around the house which is just adorable to watch. We love her to pieces and wanted to thank you again for all the great work that you do rescuing so many of these beautiful dogs.
Helen & Dan
07.20.09: Neptune (formerly known as Wrangler, happy in his new home with loving mom Jane.
07.13.09: Beautiful Henk, our sweet baby, found dumped, starving and covered with fleas in Mission Valley. Henk was less than a year old and in excruciating pain from dysplasia. Thanks to Dr. Tugend at VCA Main Street Animal Hospital and our supporters, SCGSR was able to provide bilateral hip surgery for Henk. Carl and Alan added the final ingredient to the recipe for a happy life, a very loving home! Check out Henk's YouTube video, and realize that just about six weeks before, Henk could barely walk.

05.31.09: Weibka or "Veebs" (formerly Sunny) with her new family Pinita and Steve, taking her place in the Sunday Morning Pack! A note from Weibka's mom:
Wiebka (Veebs for short) is AWESOME! I cannot tell you what a great
doggie she is and how well she fits in with us. We get up around 5:30
am every morning and go for about a 2 mile walk to start the day and
she is incredible on a leash. We walk again in the evenings for 2-5
miles, and to be honest, I wasn't initially sure that I would be up to
doing it every day after a long day at work. But it's become habit
and we both feel antsy if we don't get our walks in. We head to dog
beach in Del Mar every Saturday and Sunday for socializing and she is
so great around other dogs - she's a bit bossy, but hasn't gotten into
any trouble, and returns immediately when we call her. Steve also
takes her with him to work during the day and she's constantly around
people and noise and movement, but stays where she needs to be and is
calm and quiet the entire duration. We love her!
Thanks again, Marcy, for coordinating the perfect match for us!

Dressed in costumes, swaddled like babies, running every day with their dad, life just couldn't be worse! Yukon and Chyna are SCGSR alumni and Chipper found his way into this mess himself! Seriously, these are three happy dogs!
03.28.09: Brett, about 8 months old now, comes to visit SCGSR at the Rolando Street Fair. Brett is a homebody and wonders what the heck he's doing at the street fair!

03.24.09: Owen, now sporting the majestic name "Teton," with sister and SCGSR alumna, Maya!! We noticed and Teton's mom admitted right off, he's grown way bigger in just about one week!
Hi Marcy & Jenny,
Just a quick email to let you know everything is going great over here. As
you can see from the pictures Maya & Teton (yes, we did rename him) have
become as thick as thieves :) You will always find Teton not too far away
from Maya, and that is alright by her!
We have gone to 2 puppy kinder classes and he is doing great around the
other puppies & people. He is all dog when compared to a few of the little
shitzu-type pups! :) The trainer ends the class with us touching the dogs
ears, mouth, tail etc...and she gets a kick out of him because he gets so
relaxed that he actually falls asleep when we are "bugging" them.
We are a very happy family of 6 now. I am still trying to get a good shot
for "happy tails" and will send it when I finally get it! (Note from SCGSR: We liked THESE photos!!)
Take care, Shana & family
03.22.09: Chloe, happy in her new home with the Miller family! Could the smile on Chloe's face be any bigger? We're so happy for our beautiful girl! Thank you to the Millers for turning to rescue to adopt!
04.04.09: A note from Chloe's mom:
Hi Marcy,
I just wanted to send you another picture and to thank you again for Chloe.
We are so in love with her and are so happy to have her apart of our family.
She truly is a joy to have around! I'll keep sending pictures every now and
then ....
Kari
Just wanted to let you know that Bruce (previously 'Lightfoot') is doing great. Actually we call him "Boo".
It took him some time but he's feeling much more confident and is such a happy, sweet pup and sooooo well mannered! We still havent heard him bark once! (Love that!!) He has a GREAT life too. Long walks, a large yard with a 6 ft high fence though he spends most of the time in the house with me and we take him almost everywhere with us, plus I dont work so he is almost never at home alone. He has a german shepherd puppy neighbor he loves to play with too. Mike has taught him so many commands and he is so eager to please he practically goes insane trying to do exactly what you say right away!!! We'll take him to Denver to see his "Grandma" in a few weeks (we stay in hotels that allow dogs). Thanks again for rescuing this sweet little angel.
Alicia & Mike
PS- See funny photo attached...
