IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
Fast Facts can be used as a guide to a dog's temperament, however every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please approach any unfamiliar dog with caution, particularly when you have children with you. Always ask an adoption counselor for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events or handlers for guidance with dogs in any situation, anywhere. Remember, safety first!

Hammie
Poor 10 month old Hammie was found as a stray. She was taken to the North County Humane Society in San Diego. They called SCGSR to get Hammie out or she would be euthanized. She was too boisterous, and they said she had shown aggression toward other dogs. We sent two people volunteers and a professional trainer to evaluate Hammie, and she ended up standing calmly next to Otto, a rescued German Shepherd himself and now an SCGSR volunteer. Hammie is a high energy girl who has probably been cooped up alone since she was a baby. She is just gorgeous but needs exercise, consistency and exposure to a healthy pack who will wear her out and put her in her place. Our guess is she was taken from her litter too early, probably six weeks, and didn't have time to learn good dog-to-dog skills. None of this is her fault, but she needs an adopter who is willing and has the experience to work with her. Hammie needs this right now while she's still a baby to end up a good K9 citizen, and we know she will be!

  • If you would like to meet Hammie, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
