Harley

Harley had a rough go of it for the first two years or so of his life. Banished to the outdoors by a family that also doesn't seem to have fed him regularly, he was then dumped at a shelter because the family was moving. At the shelter this alarmingly thin boy was put on the euthanasia list twice, and both times a caring shelter worker managed to buy him more time. She then arranged for him to come to SCGSR, because she felt that he was just too nice a dog to die.

She's right! Harley is a complete love bug who just wants to lay his head in someone's lap and give them kisses. He is also very smart. Dogs that have never lived in a house often aren't housebroken, it took Harley less than a day to figure out how to ask to be let outside. He sleeps quietly through the night and is learning obedience skills very quickly. He has a bit of separation anxiety that we're working on, but he calms down quickly in a crate so he can be safely left alone. We haven't tested him with small dogs or cats, but he is getting along very well with the other dogs his size at his foster home. If you're in the market for a companion that will be completely devoted to you, Harley would like a chance to convince you to pick him.

  • If you would like to meet Harley, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
