Harry's Story

8.19.08: Harry has had both his elbow surgeries and is happily ensconced in a foster home. Harry is playing with his new foster brother and going for walks with foster mom Linda. Harry is the sweetest boy and SCGSR is so happy we could help him!

7.29.08: My name is Harry, and I need your help.
8.12.08: Harry's surgery is complete!!
Harry is so much better already, although he can't run around as much as he would like until he heals completely, you can see how much better Harry feels! His bandages are now off and he's holding his head in a normal position, it hung before, you could see he was in pain. Harry wants to thank everybody who contributed to helping him in all the ways they did, large and small! Thank you from Harry!!

8.3.08: Leg one done! You wouldn't know I had surgery - I'm bouncing around like a maniac! I'm ready for leg two but the vet says I must wait at least one week and maybe two between surgeries. He's so cautious!! You can see in my face already I'm feeling better and going from having no hope in my eyes to having hope of being a pain free and happy boy. Thanks to all of the wonderful people and dogs who are donating to my sugeries. I still have a way to go to pay my bill (leg one is paid for - leg two we have about $500 to go) but I know you all will help me because I'm ... well ... so darn cute! And thank you too to VCA Main Street and everyone there who takes such good care of me. Oh, by the way, I don't want to brag, but my hips are perfect!

On July 29, 2008, a SCGSR volunteer picked me up from the the San Diego Central Shelter. I have to say, she put me through my paces. She made me catch a ball, play with other dogs, called me by a name I didn't even have a clue was supposed to be MY name! She told the shelter worker SCGSR didn't have a lot of room or money right now, that's just how it is. Nobody has extra money nowadays!

Well I guess my charming personality and good looks won out, because off I went in a car (knee deep in dog fur I must say) to the vet's office. I haven't seen many vets, or many good times for that matter. But you know if you start squeezing my hips and elbows and sticking things in my ears and holding my mouth shut so I can't pant while you listen to my heart beating, well ... I'll be patient but you better come up with something that tastes like salmon or a camping trip or something!!

So, anyway, turns out all the pain I'm in all the time, which you can kind of see in my face? That's because I'm a four year old boy with elbow dysplasia. Its never been treated, and now I need surgery on both elbows. I live with the pain, but if I can get my surgery, I can have many pain free years before fate catches up with me. Its not much, about $2,000, and I have an angel on my shoulder as of today, so maybe I only need $500. Will you help me make up the rest? I hope you will. You know if I met you, you'd get a kiss, whether you helped me or not. If you can help, click here and make a donation by paypal. Messy licks and kisses to you! Love, Harry.
