Kiefer
Kiefer has lost his home due to a very unfortunate family situation. His family is very sad to have had to give him up. He is back in his original foster home and doing great. His original story is below. He's one gorgeous boy who has had formal training.
Kiefer is a stunning boy. His coloring is rich and gorgeous like a German bred dog, and his tail is thick and about a mile long. He nearly lost his life, the shelter thought he might have all sorts of problems. We were given the choice of picking Kiefer up or letting him die. When we picked Kiefer up he was happy and friendly and jumping, we really couldn't see what the fuss was about, but we rushed him to our vet thinking the most dire thoughts. Even if we couldn't save him, we wanted to give him a proper exam and x-rays. Well, X-rays proved Kiefer's hips are perfect. He has some bowing in his tibias which makes him a little knock-kneed. Even his shelter notes say "bright, alert and very active."
Update 5.01.08: After two weeks of playing and exercising like a normal dog, Kiefer's hind legs are strong and normal. Our vet now believes poor Kiefer was crated all during his first year of life and his muscles had atrophied. Well those days are over, and Kiefer is a stunning, sweet, and easy to live with guy. SCGSR volunteers are so happy we took a chance on Kiefer!
If you would like to meet Kiefer, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.
Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.
The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
