Mack
Mack was an "ooops" baby. His parents weren't neutered and along came Mack. He was the smallest and last of his litter, and his family asked us to help find Mack a home.
Mack came to us as a lethargic, overweight little guy and we were worried about his health. There's not much to worry about now, after putting Mack on a strict diet of wholistic puppy food and providing him with proper stimualtion and exercise. Mack is a healthy and playful boy who is into the normal puppy stuff, chewing and playing. He also loves to go for a swim in his water bowl. When on a leash Mack does a very cute happy dance!
Mack will need to have a family who understands that good nutrition and proper weight will add years of pain-free healthy living to his life. He is extremely food motivated and would likely eat until he exploded! We often hear from people that they're proud of their German Shepherd being such and such a weight, and in reality we know that the thinner the dog, the healthier the dog and the healthier the owner's bank account by saving on vet bills.
Mack is looking for a home with another playful dog to keep him moving and to give him confidence. He's a pretty mellow guy who has lived with kids and cats. SCGSR is asking for a $600 donation for Mack.
SCGSR will adopt Mack to a family in the San Diego County area. Please note that we can get 30 applications or more for a puppy, and consider adopting an adult dog. Please consider this: If you don't want an adult German Shepherd, why do you want a German Shepherd puppy? In just a few crazy months, you'll have an adult dog, and a lot fewer pairs of shoes.
Many one to two year old dogs are past the puppy teething, chewing, potty training and are able to be alone while you're at work. Their only crime was to be purchased as puppies by people who didn't think out the ramifications of having a very big, energetic, working breed dog and the amount of time it takes to exercise, train and care for them properly. A one year old German Shepherd is still a puppy for four more years, more than enough work for the average family. If you feel you have a special circumstance and don't live in San Diego, please fill out our application with as much detail as you can provide.
If you would like to meet Mack, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.
Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.
The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
