IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
For the safety of our dogs and the public, SCGSR provides volunteer orientations and training in dog handling. Volunteers who handle dogs at events are required to go through the orientation and training. For convenience we have recorded these sessions and you can watch them here. Every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please use caution with any unfamiliar dog, particularly around young children. Mishaps can have severe consequences for SCGSR, dogs and handlers. Always ask a senior volunteer for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events, dog walking, or with dogs in any situation, anywhere, where you have concerns. Remember, safety first!

Maxter
Special UPDATE 8/22! Maxter has spent a little time in an SCGSR family, and we're pleased to report that he is housebroken, crate trained, and knows how to sit for treats and walk politely on the leash! He's enjoyed playing with all the toys in the house, even if he doesn't always bring back the tennis ball. He loves to cuddle with his people, and was sweet and snuggly even during his bath. Maxster came to us not feeling well and with an ear infection. You can see from his photos, he's all better now. This special boy will fit in to almost any active family, so don't miss out! Apply to meet Maxter today!

Only a year and a half old, Maxter's life was endangered when his owners moved & didn't take him with them. Enter SCGSR! Maxter just arrived, but he's sweet, handsome, and eager to please. He loves people and other dogs, and can't wait to find a person who will love him forever. This high-octane fellow loves rides in the car, and would make an excellent running companion! Maxster came to us with an infected ear that has now been treated and is all well! He is looking for his foster or forever home! Fill out an application today!

  • If you would like to meet one of our dogs, please read the following information. The first step is for you to fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants, and be patient. We are all volunteers and we will try to respond within 72 hours.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 up. Rescuing dogs without public subsidies is expensive. If you don't want to pay our adoption donations, please consider adopting directly from a publicly sponsored shelter. SCGSR dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check. SoCal Rescue typically does not adopt puppies outside of San Diego County, so that we can provide continued support to adopters as puppies grow up. Adult adoptions out of area will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

  • Maxster when first rescued.
