Minnie
Hello! My name is Minnie (some of where is dora puzzles games the volunteers call me Minnie Moo cause I have cow coloring). I'm close to one year old. I'm a very sweet, loving "Shepherd Wanna-Be." People think I have a lot of Husky in me and just a touch of German Shepherd because I have to be on top of everything, I like to be able to check out the horizon! I love my toys - to death. I also love to play in water and would really appreciate a swimming pool, its hard to swim in the water bucket but I still try! I have the cutest howl that sounds like a choo choo train - woo wooooo! So, how did I wind up in a Shepherd rescue? It's because I was really sick, starving and neglected, and SCGSR couldn't ignore my sad eyes. Now I have happy eyes and a full tummy. I love people and other dogs. I'm crate-trained, potty trained and as cute as a button. I need a little training on leash because its just so exciting to be on a leash, I try to show off my ability to fly. I'm also so darn smart I can open doors with my mouth and I have puppy energy. What's great is that I will be fun to train and will probably learn my manners quickly. My foster mom adores me, she kind of saved my life but that's not just it, she thinks I'm special. Come on out and meet me some time!

Check out Minnie's video and photos to see just how far this little cutie has come. Now all she needs is a loving family to make her life complete!

Please check out Minnie's progress in the photos below. She gas been with SCGSR for about 5 weeks on 8.9.09. Please help Minnie reach her goal of allowing SCGSR to say yes to a few more dogs by making a donation now. All they need is one small chance.

  • If you would like to meet Minnie, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.

  • Minnie on 8.9.09, ready for her forever home!

Update 6.28.09: Our girl Minnie. Just two weeks after being rescued.
Minnie didn't need much. All Minnie needed was good food, some supplements, a couple of doses of Revolution, worming and vaccinations. Minnie will need only to be spayed now and she will be ready for her forever home. All together, care for Minnie will probably cost SCGSR about $450, which is our average for each healthy dog rescued, if we have a foster home for them. Minnie would like to help us raise funds to save a few more dogs. Her goal is only $1000. Will you help Minnie reach her goal? No little dog ever deserved help more than Minnie, and she wants SCGSR to be able to say yes the next time a dog needs help.

Update 6.20.09: No Mites on Minnie!! Minnie went to the vet today and was given the all clear to reside with her foster pack. At her first group meal, she proved that she could possibly eat until she popped! She's making up for lost time, and growing like a weed. Fur is growing in all over her body. Minnie weighed nearly 22 pounds today, one week after weighing in at 12 pounds. Don't we all wish we could want to do that! Our vet thinks Ms. Minnie does have a lot of German Shepherd in her and won't end up being quite so "mini" as we originally thought. Whatever kind of dog Minnie grows into, we're here to help her find the perfect home. Thanks to everyone who is helping SCGSR support Minnie's recovery, we can't do this without you. Make a donation now. Make Minnie fat!

Update 6.15.09: Minnie is doing great! She's eating well and getting high quality food and supplements. She's had her second bath tonight and although the shampoo part is okay, that rinsing thing is NOT happening! She has filled out a tiny bit and still looks pretty punky but she doesn't look at death's door and her foster mom might be just hopeful, but thinks she sees a little downy fur growing in! Let's keep our fingers crossed that Minnie has a very speedy recovery!

6.12.09: We saved Aurora (aka Minnie) today. That means you, the people who support us. You saved Minnie. Just a baby at probably 3 months old, Minnie was found stray in San Bernardino County, emaciated, most of her fur gone. Wrapped around her tiny, frail neck and dragging behind her was a chain that was way too big for her small body. Minnie should probably weigh 25 pounds, she might weigh 12 pounds. All she has is a sweet wag of her tail and her brilliant, healthy and shining eyes to tell you there is hope for her. Minnie would have died at the shelter today, except for the call that came just in time to save her: there was a rescue standing ready to help her. Incredibly caring rescuers and an animal control officer drove about 200 miles to bring Minnie to safety with SCGSR. See her eat her first meal below, then consider making a donation. Six cans of puppy food or about $10 is an appreciated donation, so nothing is too small.
