IMPORTANT-SAFETY FIRST!
Fast Facts can be used as a guide to a dog's temperament, however every dog is an individual and will react to different situations in a unique manner. Although we do our best to evaluate a dog's temperament, we have not seen every dog in every possible situation. Please approach any unfamiliar dog with caution, particularly when you have children with you. Always ask an adoption counselor for guidance when interacting with dogs at adoption events or handlers for guidance with dogs in any situation, anywhere. Remember, safety first!

Olive

Thanks to all our generous supporters, Olive has fully recovered and will never have any problems related to her heart condition! She has been adopted by a very loving new mommy and will live a wonderful life. We are so very grateful for your help in curing this little angel and sending her out into the world to be spoiled and loved, and healthy!

You may notice that Olive is not like the other dogs up for adoption. She may not look like a German Shepherd but she has the heart of one. This fearless 11 week old Jack Russell mix is as cute as a puppy can be. She also has more energy than most, let's not forget she is a terrier! Abandoned, covered in fleas, ticks, & parasites, little Olive was rescued by one of our tender-hearted volunteers.

And not a moment too soon! Upon her first vet visit, we discovered that she had a rare heart defect and that she needed surgery immediately to correct it. On Christmas Eve this brave little pup went in for her surgery and thanks to the Dr. Serdy at Emergency Pet Hospital, La Mesa, the surgery went off without a hitch. Olive still has one more cardiologist visit before she is given a clean bill of health, but so far she is doing great.

She currently lives with two extra large shepherds and dora games to play pretty much runs the house. She loves playing tug of war and gnawing on "her" toys. I emphasis the word "her" because to this strong willed terrier, everything is hers. She is crate trained and in the evenings likes to settle down with her favorite treat - the peanut butter filled puppy Kong. Olive is on her way to being fully house broken, she is a quick learner. She recently spent time with her foster mommy's 1.5 year old niece and had a fun supervised play date.

Olive's prognosis is very good and she shouldn't require anything but regular veterinary care. Olive has had a ruff start of life but is now ready to put the past behind her and move onto a healthy future. Can you provide this sweet girls with the loving forever home that she deserves?

  • If you would like to meet Olive, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.

  • Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.

  • The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
