Yukon
Update 10.10.08: Yukon continues to improve. He's a happy loving puppy as you can see from his video. Yukon is just the sweetest thing and even gets along with cats! Now he just needs to find a family to love him forever.
Yukon came to SCGSR from the Central San Diego Shelter, he needed our help. Yukon was small for his age of about five months. He still had his puppy fur. But something was wrong - Yukon wasn't growing. Yukon he went right from the shelter into a loving foster home. Having a foster for a sick puppy can be the difference between life and death. This lucky, charming little boy also found a guardian angel in the waiting room at the vet's office to take care of his medical needs. He charms everyone he meets! Blood tests confirmed that Yukon had ehrlichiosis, a potentially fatal disease passed to dogs by brown ticks. Yukon's bone marrow was making no blood cells, red or white.
After treatment, we are so happy to report that Yukon is pulling through! His body began making the blood cells he needs to survive and grow and thrive! He has gained over 10 pounds, and at 32 pounds he is thriving. Yukon loves other dogs, adores people, and loves to go for walks. This adoreable guy is now ready to start looking for his forever home. It will be important for Yukon to get the best care and nutrition until he reaches his full size, and he may be very small as an adult, but it hardly matters - he's so cute!
Puppies are a 10 to 15 year commitment. Please consider adoption carefully and make sure you're in a position to always have a home for your pet. Puppies require hours of attention and training every day. Their health care can be expensive and you can expect to pay over $1,000 a year to keep your pet fed and healthy.

UPDATE 9.13.08: Yukon is fighting back! We learned from his blood tests today that Yukon's bone marrow has started making blood cells again!! His blood is nearly normal. A couple more weeks of medication, a test for ehrlichiosis and another blood panel and our pal Yukon has a much better chance now at a happy and healthy life. We're still pulling for this incredible little puppy and we know you are too! 9.3.08: LITTLE YUKON IS FIGHTING FOR HIS LIFE. Yukon came to dora games games

We are treating Yukon and hoping this little guy will pull through. Once his treatment is finished, we'll find out whether Yukon can begin making the blood cells he needs to survive the disease. If you would like to meet Yukon, please fill out our online application. This is the starting point in adopting from SCGSR. We strive to keep our website current within 24 hours. If you see a dog on our site, it is most likely available. The more information you give us about your dog experience, your home, your fence, children and other pets, the better we can do to match you with one of our dogs. Keep in mind that we may be working with prior applicants.
Our adoption donations are tax deductible and range from $300 to $500. Dogs will be spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, and in most instances they will be microchipped. To those big hearted people willing to adopt older dogs or dogs with physical problems, we will work with you on adoption donation amounts.
The adoption process involves an application, a telephone interview, a meeting with our dogs and then a home and fence check. In certain cases photos of your house and yard may be substituted for a home check.
